7 Weeks

Your Baby

Your baby is now the size of a blueberry measuring about 9.5mm (0.37 inches) from Head to Rump and weighs around 1.1g.

Tiny buds will sprout which will become your baby’s Arms and Legs.  They look more like paddles at the moment.  Baby’s Heart has now developed it’s 4 chambers and the heart beat will become more regular rather than a random thump.  The Face is starting to make its debut.  Tiny eyes still in their early stages resembling darkened spots, little ear holes and a mini button nose and cute mouth starting to develop.

The Brain will be having a bit of a growth spurt and the Spinal Cord is forming.  Then there is the Liver gearing itself up to be the unsung hero responsible for blood cell production and their Pituitary Gland will be starting to produce hormones that influence their growth and development.

Your Body

Your uterus will continue to expand in size with your growing baby and a Mucus Plug will form within the Cervix which helps to protect against infection.  The formation of your Umbilical Cord is well under way and no longer just a cord but essential in passing nutrients to allow your little one’s growth and development.  The amniotic fluid surrounding your baby will be now providing an almost aquatic playground where your little one can move around twisting and somersaulting.  You may find some areas of your skin become darker such as areas on the face, along your tummy midline (Linea Nigra), nipples, armpits and genitalia.
